The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award

      The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award is an international award for literature for children and young adults. The award was established by the Swedish government in 2002 to strengthen and increase interest in literature for children and young people around the world and to promote children’s rights. Presented annually to one or more laureates irrespective of language or nationality, the award can be given to living authors, illustrators, storytellers, and/or to people, projects or organizations promoting reading. The amount of the award is SEK five million, making it the world’s foremost award for children’s and young adult literature and the second largest literary prize in the world.
