The author’s work as a photographer focuses on the relationship between nature and humans. He spent thirty years transforming 300 square meters of terraced rice paddy at the foot of Mount Hiei in Kyoto into a satoyama, an area of mixed woodlots, wetland and farmland. Through photographs, he presents how he raised a diverse range of flowers that attract various butterfly species throughout the year. The relationship between the butterflies and their host plants, as well as the rich diversity of butterfly ecology, are illustrated with vivid images. The author created a variety of butterfly home in the satoyama.
