After every session of radioactive iodine therapy, she has to stay at least two meters from other people for forty-eight hours. It forces Jeongeum to spend time in isolation after therapy. Keeping a two-meter distance becomes a metaphor for the way people relate to others. When Jeongeum’s pain is conveyed across the two meters needed to protect herself and others, empathy begins to bloom.
