"Kick the Can"

In the game Kick the Can, one person is designated as “it” and an empty can is placed on the ground. When playing Kick the Can, a shy little girl named Chie is always too afraid to kick the can in order to save those already “caught” by the designated “It” player. This time she hides with her friend Rie, but Rie is caught when she goes out to kick the can. Chie screws up her courage to save her friend and succeeds in kicking it. The illustrations eloquently portray the feelings of the shy little girl and present the action from bold, dramatic angles.  

『かんけり』  

「かんけり」は、空き缶を地面に置き、鬼が３０数える間にみんな隠れ、鬼は見つける度に缶を踏んで見つかった人は鬼の捕虜になる遊びだ。見つかっていない人が鬼の目を盗んで缶を蹴ると、捕虜は開放される。主人公の少女・わたしは、缶をけるのが怖くて、今まで誰も助けたことが無い。一緒に隠れていた、りえちゃんは、缶を蹴りに飛び出して鬼に見つかってしまう。引っ込み思案のわたしを、いつも助けてくれる彼女の救出に、勇気をふりしぼってわたしは駆け出し缶を蹴り上げる。内気な少女の気持ちをしなやかにとらえながら、大胆でダイナミックなアングルで躍動的に描いた絵本だ。
