The first day
第一天
Monk A: I have been traveling around the world and happened to stop here. It looks like a wonderful temple. It is a bit too far from the well though. What a pity. Oh well, I’ll just carry the water myself.
和尚1:我一直在环球旅行，正好停在这里。这所寺庙看起来不错，就是离井太远，有点遗憾。好了，我就自己挑水喝吧。

Monk B: It’s a good temple, but the temple is on the top of a hill while the well is at the bottom. Anyway, a master has been living in the temple. We shall fetch water together. Master!
和尚2:这是个好庙，但是庙在山顶，而井却在山底下。无论如何，寺庙里已经住进一位师傅了。我们将一起抬水喝。（看见前面有人去挑水，边追边喊）师傅！

Monk A: Welcome! Welcome! Let’s serve Buddha together from now on.
和尚1:欢迎！欢迎!从现在起让我们一起侍奉佛祖吧。
Monk B: Yes. Let’s.
和尚2:好，我们一块干吧。
Monk C: I have had a terrible journey. I’m so tired. Master, can I have a cup of water? Thank you very much. Can I have one more cup, please?
和尚3:我经历了一个可怕的旅行，我太累了。师傅，能给我一杯水喝吗？太谢谢了。请再让我喝一杯吧？
Monk B: Sorry, we have no more water.
和尚2:对不起,没水了。

Monk A: Let’s go get some more.
和尚1：我们再去取些水来。
Monk C: OK. As someone is already going to get water, I’d better wait here.
和尚3：好吧，既然已经有人去打水了，我最好是在这里等了。
The second day
第二天
Monk C: The water has run out. You go get some.
和尚3：水吃完了，你去打些水来。
Monk B: It’s your turn to go.
和尚2：这回该你去打了。
Monk C: I’m a newcomer and don’t know the way, so you will have to go.
和尚3：我是新来的不认识路，所以还是得你去。
Monk A: Since we all drink water, we should all take turns fetching it. It is just like the old saying, “One monk has enough water to drink.”
和尚1：因为我们都要喝水，所以我们应该轮流去打水。正像老话说的那样：“一个和尚有水喝。”

Monk B: Two monks have to get water together.
和尚2：两个和尚抬水喝。
Monk C: And three monks have no water.
和尚3：三个和尚没水喝。
Another person:The kitchen’s on fire!
另一人：厨房着火啦！
图5： 庙里着火了，水缸里没有一点水。小和尚赶快找桶去挑水，救火。
Monk A: Hurry up！
和尚1：快点儿救火！
Monk B: We don’t have any water!
和尚2：我们连一点水都没有！
Monk C: Let’s go get some.
和尚3：我们一起去打些来。
A and B: Let’s go.
和尚1和2：我们一块去打水。
Narrator:As long as each one does his share.
旁白：自那以后的很长时间，每个人都分担了打水的工作。
Together: There’ll be enough water for thousands of monks.
一起：那儿的水足够几千个和尚喝。
